1841 Farms and Vineyard is a space with a rich history. The area was originally founded by the Kickapoo Tribe, and they would hold regular meetings at the area now known as The Landing. Over the years, the land served as a farm for True Worthy Durgin. Beyond working the fields, True Worthy gained a reputation as a conductor of the Underground Railroad, sheltering enslaved people as they fled North to Canada. Over the next century, the land was purchased by Peace Activist Matt Lamb, who turned the home into his art studio. Today, the private property is family-owned and offers you the chance to exchange vows in a breathtaking and storied space.
Details of the Grounds
1841 Farms and Vineyards gives you several options for your ceremony and reception site. The property has two locations within a mile of each other, giving you the ability to choose different areas for each part of your wedding. For those who want a truly rustic space, you can use The Landing at 1841. Outside the house is an open field that overlooks the lake as well as the vineyards. A small wooden bridge takes you across a dry creek bed to a ceremony site. Here, you can set your archway in front of the towering weeping willow and proclaim your love as the branches gently sway.
Once this portion of the day is over, you can take your pictures while your guests head over to the barn for an outdoor cocktail hour on the back porch. As they sip on signature cocktails, they can gaze out at the vineyards that stretch over 50 acres. The porch wraps around the shiplap barn so your guests can easily make their way through the gardens before it’s time for your reception.

Most receptions at The Landing take place inside the barn. This 1841 Farms and Vineyard building is rustic to its core! The interior features raftered wooden ceilings and wooden beams throughout. Throughout your night, the room will be illuminated by crystal chandeliers. There are several sets of French doors that let your guests come in and out as they please. The barn offers heating and cooling. There is an on-site get-ready room that you can use as you get ready for your event. This space will be able to host up to 200 guests.
For another indoor ceremony site, you can use The River House. This is a dark blue country home with hydrangeas that start to bloom as the weather heats up. The interior features an off-white shiplap that runs up to the cathedral ceilings. The back has a landing where you can set up sound equipment. Intricate iron beams run across the balcony, offering a thoughtful detail that your guests can admire as they enter the space. In this room, you will have your grand entrance through the French doors in the back and exchange vows with the sun streaming through the windows at the front. This area can seat up to 200 guests.
Throughout your wedding day, you can choose to have access to the Trueworthy House. This charming space comes outfitted with antique furniture and often hosts smaller private events. You will have access to a kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a built-in bar. Vintage furniture adds to the spirit of the home. This tends to be a favored spot for couples who want to have plenty of space to get ready throughout the day! You can also rent it out overnight as lodging.
